Ganderbal, Jan 22: In a significant step towards maintaining order and promoting sustainable development, the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), in coordination with the Sonamarg Police and Revenue Department, carried out a large-scale eviction drive on Wednesday, removing over 100 unauthorized street vendors from key areas in Sonamarg.
The vendors, who had encroached on footpaths, meadow spaces, and stretches along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, were evicted to uphold zoning laws and ensure the scenic destination remains a regulated and tourist-friendly hub.
An SDA official stated that the move was necessary to address persistent complaints about encroachments in the meadow areas and on roadside pathways. “This action is part of our broader efforts to manage Sonamarg’s growth sustainably and ensure all activities adhere to regulations,” he added.
Authorities emphasised that such enforcement drives would continue to maintain order and safeguard the region’s development goals, urging compliance from all stakeholders.
