Hyderabad, Feb 02: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the South India BHU Alumni Meet at the IICT Auditorium in Hyderabad today. During his speech, the Lieutenant Governor conveyed his greetings on the foundation day of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
He emphasized that the BHU alumni meet represents a shared commitment to Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya’s vision of community-building and social impact. “Mahamana’s vision was to create a University that would build a new India. BHU has successfully fulfilled his dream. It has not only preserved our core ideals, traditions, and values, but it has also shaped the destiny of the country by transforming the entire education system,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor also remarked on the pivotal role BHU played in nurturing the spirit of the freedom movement after its founding in 1916. It played a crucial role in awakening national consciousness. In the post-independence era, BHU became a catalyst for socio-economic and industrial change, making invaluable contributions to the development of a strong nation.
“Mahamana’s ideals, based on three primary objectives—liberating India, rebuilding industries for a developed India, and preparing the youth with the best education system for a brighter future—laid the foundation for a modern and self-reliant India,” the Lieutenant Governor stated. “Mahamana always maintained that India needs both economic empowerment and cultural enlightenment. That is why he ensured that BHU would be a confluence of knowledge, culture, and patriotism. BHU will always be remembered as the breeding ground of revolutionary ideas that guided India’s journey toward self-reliance.”
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the significant contributions of BHU to the nation’s progress, as detailed in a monograph prepared during the Amrit Mahotsav. The monograph aptly noted that BHU’s students were not just scholars, but agents of change.
The monograph stated: “BHU has emerged as an important partner in India’s economic development efforts. It became a breeding ground for revolutionary ideas, instilling a sense of patriotism and activism in its students, many of whom went on to become prominent figures in India’s fight for freedom. BHU has not only focused on providing world-class education to Indian women but also defied the oppressive colonial regime by nurturing them to become future leaders, achievers, and thinkers. The spirit of BHU, with its unwavering dedication to the nation, remains etched in the annals of anti-colonial history, forever igniting the flame of inspiration within future generations. It urges them to relentlessly strive for greatness and uphold the cherished values of freedom, unity, and progress.”
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor also praised the efforts of BHU’s distinguished alumni, acknowledging their accomplishments and valuable contributions to path-breaking inventions and the creation of a vibrant ecosystem that has driven widespread social and economic changes across the world.
He concluded by extending his warm greetings to all attendees on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja.
