Srinagar, April 24: As the process for filing nominations by contesting candidates for the General Lok Sabha Elections 2024 continues, ten more candidates filed nomination papers for the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency in the office of the Returning Officer (RO) 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency on Wednesday, bringing the total number of candidates to 17 so far.
Those who submitted their nomination papers include Mohammad Ashraf Mir from J&K Apni Party and Waheed ur Rehman Parra from Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party, submitted their nomination papers before the Returning Officer, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat.
Similarly, Rubina Akhtar from the National Lok Tantrik Party, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat from the Ambedkar Samaj Party, and Sheikh Waseem Hassan of the JK Nationalist Peoples Front also submitted their nomination papers in the office of the Returning Officer for the Srinagar Constituency.
Amin Dar, Riyaz Ahmad Bhat, Sayim Mustafa, Ghulam Mohammad Wani, and Hilal Ahmad Dar filed nominations as independent candidates for the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency.
With the filing of ten nominations on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the total number of candidates who have filed their candidature for the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency reaches 17, as seven candidates had already filed their nomination papers on April 22 and April 23, 2024.
The last date for filing nomination papers in the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency is April 25, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 03:00 PM. The scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by the candidates will take place on April 26, 2024.
Candidates have the option to withdraw their candidature by or before April 29, 2024, until 03:00 PM. The vote is scheduled in the constituency for May 13 under the fourth phase, with the counting of votes set for June 4, 2024.
After filing his nomination papers, Mohammad Ashraf Mir of the Apni Party appealed to people to use their votes wisely and reject the traditional parties in these elections.
In his message to the people, Mir said, “I urge people to use their vote wisely and elect Apni Party candidates who are committed to working for the peace, prosperity, and development of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the time for people to reject traditional parties and their leaders, who have been deceiving them for years and decades through deceptive political narratives and false promises.”
“Over the past, these parties kept people busy with emotional slogans like ‘Raishumari’, ‘Autonomy’, ‘Self-rule’, and so on. While keeping people busy with emotional sloganeering and unattainable goals, the leaders of these parties created empires for themselves. They created their family rule here, making the future of their young generations secure. Therefore, it is important people reject these exploitative politicians by the power of their vote,” he added.
Addressing reporters after submitting the nomination form, Waheed Parra, the President of the Youth Wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a candidate from the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, stated the party’s commitment to representing the sentiments of the youth in Parliament through democratic means.
He stated, “Our aim in this election is to reach every household in Jammu and Kashmir and earn the votes and trust of those who have felt neglected over the past five years.”
Parra asserted that the PDP embodies the aspirations of the youth of Jammu & Kashmir and pledges to be their voice. He appealed to voters to grant the party an opportunity to advocate for their sentiments in the Parliament, saying, “Give us a chance, and witness how the PDP will champion the interests of the people in the Parliament of New Delhi.”
