JAMMU, Dec 12: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in an address at Jammu University, lauded the impact of the abrogation of Article 370, asserting that it has paved the way for the “building of a new J&K” and ensuring justice for the “deprived sections” of society.
LG Sinha extended a warm welcome to the Supreme Court’s endorsement of the Modi Government’s decision to abrogate Article 370, emphasizing the court’s view that the abrogation was fully constitutional.
During the tribute ceremony to Zorawar Singh, LG Sinha remarked, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi liberated J&K from all evils four years back on August 05, 2019, by revoking Article 370, thus initiating a social revolution in this UT for providing justice to all, especially the deprived sections of society.”
The decision to abrogate Article 370, according to the LG, is aimed at “strengthening the roots of unity and integrity of India” while delivering justice to the marginalized sections of society.
“J&K is rapidly progressing on the path of development, with a commitment to inclusivity,” LG Sinha said. He noted the decline of stone-pelting incidents and the absence of hartal calendars issued by neighbouring countries, emphasising that the people of J&K now live without fear and are free to pursue their aspirations.
Sinha highlighted the transformation of J&K from a terrorism hotspot to a tourism hub, with 1.88 crore tourists visiting last year and over two crore tourists already in the current year.
Over the past four years since the abrogation of Article 370, LG Sinha emphasised the joint efforts of the Government of India and the J&K administration to shape a new J&K in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment.
Meanwhile, LG Sinha asserted that J&K is on a fast-track to development, with its people liberated to live according to their aspirations and dreams without any apprehension.

University of Jammu to House Chair in memory of General Zorawar Singh
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in a solemn ceremony held today at the University of Jammu, unveiled a statue commemorating the legendary General Zorawar Singh and paid homage to the revered warrior on his martyrdom day.
The event was organised by the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust, in collaboration with the J&K Ex-Services League.
During the ceremony, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha announced a significant decision by the government to establish a Chair in memory of General Zorawar Singh at the University of Jammu.
Expressing his vision for the initiative, he emphasised that the educational endeavour would inspire students and researchers to contribute towards the realisation of a strong and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir—a vision cherished by General Zorawar Singh himself.
Addressing the attendees, the Lt Governor praised the efforts of the organising bodies in highlighting General Zorawar Singh’s invaluable contributions to India’s history. He reiterated the commitment of the Union Territory Administration to honour the valour and sacrifice of the immortal heroes of Jammu and Kashmir.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha stated, “History of great personalities like General Zorawar Singh, Brig Rajinder Singh, Maqbool Sherwani will be taught to the students in schools of J&K. Their life, courage, conquest is a lesson about patriotism, discipline, self-confidence and it will inspire students to achieve the goal of making India a Developed Nation.”
In a directive, he instructed the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages to prepare a monograph on the life of General Zorawar Singh in the Tamil language.
Emphasising the importance of upholding national unity and integrity, Lt Governor Sinha urged every citizen to consider it their duty. He encouraged the younger generation to strive to become worthy heirs of the great leaders who struggled and sacrificed to build a new destiny for the country.
The commemorative event saw the participation of Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (Retd.), Lt Gen RK Sharma (Retd.), Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak (former Minister), and other dignitaries. Padam Shri SP Varma, President of Gandhi Global Family, Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, and various prominent citizens and students were also present.
