Drass, Aug 28: The Union Territory of Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor, General BD Mishra, urged the people of Drass to seize the opportunities presented by the newly granted district status. Speaking to reporters during his visit to Drass, LG Mishra highlighted the importance of regular communication and cooperation with the District Commissioner (DC) to ensure the successful implementation of development programs.
“When you have received district status here, make an effort to regularly communicate all development programs to the District Commissioner. Take advantage of all the facilities available to a district and cooperate, because cooperation is very important,” LG Mishra stated.
The Lieutenant Governor’s visit comes on the heels of Drass, formerly a sub-division, being elevated to district status by the Government of India. Reflecting on this significant milestone, LG Mishra recalled his first visit to Drass and the challenges faced by the region due to its distance from major towns, nearly 200 to 300 kilometers away. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their pivotal roles in granting district status to Drass, along with four other areas.
“This place is not going to remain stagnant but is destined to grow. Whatever resources we have, we will ensure they are utilized effectively, enhancing the reputation of Drass and contributing to the nation’s progress,” LG Mishra added that the region’s development is a priority on his radar.
The LG also highlighted the burgeoning tourism sector in Ladakh, noting that efforts are being made to attract more visitors to the Union Territory. He assured that the new district status would pave the way for accelerated development in Drass over the next 30 years, promising a brighter future for the upcoming generations.
During his visit, LG Mishra addressed a public gathering, reiterating his commitment to the development of Drass. He was accompanied by prominent officials, including CEC Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhone, DC Kargil Shrikant Bala Sahab Suse, SP Kargil, and Councillors Abdul Wahid and Abdul Samad. BJP Chief Patron Drass Fayaz Qari and other religious and political leaders were also present.
In a heartfelt gesture, the people of Drass presented LG Mishra with traditional attire, which he donned on the spot, further strengthening his bond with the local community. The visit is seen as a significant step towards the future growth and development of Drass under LG Mishra’s visionary leadership.
