Baltal, July 27: Amid the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, a langar (community kitchen) owner at the Baltal base camp has become a symbol of compassion and safety by distributing free helmets to pilgrims trekking to the holy cave shrine. For the past three years, the initiative has aimed to protect yatris from the dangers of falling stones along the steep and rocky terrain. With over three lakh devotees having undertaken the yatra in the past 21 days, this gesture has emerged as a vital layer of protection and goodwill.Yatris are our guests and their safety is our priority,” said Swami Ji, the langar operator behind the initiative. “A few years ago, a woman tragically lost her life due to a falling rock. That incident stayed with me, and I decided to act by offering helmets to help save lives.”Each day, thousands of pilgrims are equipped with helmets before they begin their climb from Baltal to the cave. The helmets, provided free of cost, have been particularly appreciated by elderly yatris and families with children.Swami Ji and his team continue to serve food, shelter, and now safety reinforcing the spirit of seva (selfless service) that defines the Amarnath Yatra experience.
