SRINAGAR, SEP 19: Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Council (AC), chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has granted approval for the transfer of 500 Kanal 11 Marla of land in Sallar Anantnag to the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir. This allocation is intended to establish a Research Station and additional Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
The meeting, attended by Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor; Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir; and Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, deliberated on the significance of these developments.
The Research Station is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing scientific technologies for agriculture, thus increasing productivity and improving the economic well-being of farmers. Moreover, it will be instrumental in raising awareness about enhanced agricultural practices through a multitude of extension programs. Additionally, it will provide quality inputs such as seeds, planting materials, organic products, bio-fertilizers, and livestock and poultry strains to local farmers.
In another notable decision, the AC has given the green light to the transfer of 47 Kanals 13 Marlas of land in Chadoora, Budgam, to the Animal and Sheep Husbandry department. This allocation is intended to facilitate the establishment of milk processing infrastructure.
The establishment of milk processing facilities holds the promise of multifaceted benefits, including economic development, job creation, enhanced nutrition, food security, and agricultural improvement. This initiative will elevate the dairy industry, contributing to the overall well-being of communities and fostering economic growth.
The dairy sector in Jammu and Kashmir has substantial untapped potential, offering employment opportunities and bolstering the welfare of local populations. With growing demand for dairy products and per capita milk availability lower than in many other potential milk-producing states, the dairy sector is poised for significant growth in the Union Territory in the coming years.
