Sambam, Oct 28: SKUAST Jammu has already launched fourth phase of Back to Village programme through all the nine KVKs. KVK Samba under Jan Abhiyan Programme, organized two Awareness programmes under the theme “Diversification and Beekeeping for Entrepreneurs” at Village Mandal on 26.10.2022 and Palli of Samba District in which more than 95 participants including farmers actively participated in both the programmes.
The programme was conducted as per instructions of Professor S.K.Gupta and able guidance of Professor Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head KVK Samba.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Neerja Sharma Senior Scientist Horticulture and coordinator of the training programme at village Mandal stressed upon crop diversification by cultivating High Density fruit plants and also aware them about all centrally sponsored schemes for the benefit of the common masses. She shared his experience about various dimensions of Horticulture with regard to use of fertilizers, pruning, soil health, marketing and other related aspects.
Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist, Entomology and coordinator of the training programme at village Palli briefed the importance of Beekeeping in increasing the productivity of crops through pollination. He briefed that how the Beekeeping can play important role in doubling the farm income by adopting different means like value addition, marketing and grading of Honey. He also highlighted the initiatives taken by KVK Samba in promotion of Bee Keeping. He also described that every year this day enables us to raise awareness on the essential role bees and other pollinators play in keeping people and the planet healthy, and on the many challenges. He highlighted the role of the farmers in the economic development of the nation and suggested that farmers can contribute in better way if they adopt beekeeping.
Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha, Senior Scientist Agricultural Engineering described that Farm Mechanization has proved a game changer in the field of Agriculture under which introduction of Farm Machinery like tractors, tillers, farm machinery banks, Custom hiring centers, Weeders, Irrigation Pump sets, Brush Cutters, innovative farm tools to the farmers has reduced farm drudgery to a greater extent. He said that the farming operations have speed up and this has helped farmers to reduce the cost of cultivation viz a viz carrying timely farm operations thereby influencing crop production and productivity.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma Scientist (Animal Sciences) discussed the various welfare schemes of central and state governments in animal husbandry sector. He also sensitized about the different parasitic diseases of livestock, their prevention and control strategies.
The program was also assisted by Dr. Shalini Khajuria of KVK Samba.
