Srinagar, May 31: The University of Kashmir on Saturday concluded a three-day assessment visit by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Peer Team, which praised the institution’s academic standards, governance, research environment, and student-centric initiatives. The visit has raised strong expectations that KU may secure an upgrade from its current A+ grade to the prestigious A++ accreditation.
Rising Kashmir was the first to report that the NAAC team would visit KU between May 29 and June 6. Sources within the university confirmed that the expert panel was led by Professor Chinta Sudhakar and comprised seven members—five joined virtually, while two were physically present on campus.
During the evaluation, the team carried out a comprehensive assessment across NAAC’s seven core criteria: curricular aspects; teaching-learning and evaluation; research, innovations, and extension; infrastructure and learning resources; student support and progression; governance, leadership and management; and institutional values and best practices.
Beginning on May 29, the peer team visited several academic departments, held interactions with faculty, students, and administrative staff, and reviewed documentation, audits, and performance metrics. Detailed presentations highlighted the university’s achievements, alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and its commitment to global academic standards.
Credible sources within the university disclosed that during internal deliberations, Professor Sudhakar remarked that “there were no shortcomings” in KU’s performance. He commended the university’s robust academic culture, emphasis on interdisciplinary research, and inclusive education efforts—especially considering its location in a geographically and politically sensitive region.
A formal concluding session was held at the Convocation Complex, where Vice Chancellor Professor Nilofer Khan, Registrar Dr. Naseer Iqbal, and other senior officials welcomed the feedback and reiterated their commitment to quality and transparency in higher education.
“The team’s appreciation of our work is deeply encouraging. It reflects the collective dedication of our faculty, students, and staff. We are hopeful of achieving A++,” a senior academic official told Rising Kashmir.
The University of Kashmir has been consistently working to elevate its academic and research stature nationally and internationally. With this successful NAAC peer review, the institution stands on the threshold of becoming one of India’s top-ranked universities under the new accreditation cycle.
