Jammu, Jan 11: National Conference (NC) provincial president, Advocate Showkat Ahmad Mir on Saturday said Kashmiri Pandits are an integral part of the pluralistic ethos of Kashmir and the party is dedicatedly working towards safeguarding their rights.
Mir made these remarks while chairing a meeting of the party’s minority wing organised by Vice President Minority Cell Amit Koul at Sher -e-Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu today.
Among those who were present included Minority Wing convenor Sardar Jagdish Singh Azad, Additional Spokesperson Shriya Handoo, Yaqoob Wani Joint Secretary Kashmir Province, Jatin Bhat, Ashok Koul, Veer Ji Bhat, R. L Malla, Sumita Bhan, Arvind Kumar, Varinder Pandita, Shubam Ji Razdan, Geeta Koul, Viraj Ji, Rajinder Dhar, Harminder Singh, Surinder Nath, Rajinder Dhar, Geeta Koul and others, the party said in a statement.
Earlier Mir was accorded a warm welcome by the party functionaries at the party’s provincial headquarters Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu. Party functionaries also felicitate him on his elevation to the coveted post of Provincial President of Kashmir Province.
In his address to the party’s functionaries, Mir emphasized the crucial role they play as a bridge between the people and the government. He stressed the importance of maintaining uninterrupted communication with minorities, especially the Kashmiri Pandits who have migrated and are now residing in Jammu and other parts of the country.
“It is crucial that we prioritize our efforts to ensure that the voices of our constituents are not only heard but also acted upon. Under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, the government is actively pursuing the goals outlined in our manifesto, with a particular focus on addressing the increasing challenges faced by minorities since 2014,” he said, adding, “Our party members at every level, from our ground workers to our block presidents and office bearers, serve as the eyes and ears of our organization. It is their responsibility to bring the issues affecting the people they represent to the attention of the government for swift resolution. There is no room for complacency in this mission. We must remain vigilant and proactive in advocating for the needs of our community.”
The NC leader urged the minority wing functionaries to prepare themselves for the upcoming ULB and panchayat elections whenever they are scheduled. He directed the minority-wing functionaries to initiate a massive outreach program to gather support for the party.
He reassured the attendees that he would bring this issue to the attention of the party leadership for a swift resolution.
