Making inroads into the fashion industry, 24-year-old youth from south Kashmir has recently participated in many fashion shows in New Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities of India.
Imran Khan, hails from Larnoo Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and has been working in the fashion industry for the past several years. He has signed multiple contracts with both national and international agencies.
Imran told Rising Kashmir that becoming a model was his childhood dream. Currently, he is working as a freelancer and has worked with many agencies in New Delhi and other cities and exploring more options as well.
He has completed B.SC from Government Degree College Anantnag and now is pursuing a full modeling career in the Industry.
“There are struggles and stories everywhere but one has to face those challenges and move on in their career. I have worked with national and international agencies and found that Kashmiris have enough talent but they lack platform,” he said.
Son of a mason, Imran said initially his family resisted the idea of a career in the fashion industry. However, they later realized the limited scope for government jobs in our region and have since been supportive of my work. Now there is good support at my home, he said.
Imran said that family support is like a sturdy pillar in the tumultuous journey of an artist. Emotionally, it serves as a lifeline, offering reassurance and comfort during moments of self-doubt or creative block.
“Financially, it can be the bridge that allows artists to traverse from aspiring to established, providing the means to invest in education, equipment, or time to hone their craft without the constant worry of survival,” he said.
Throughout his career, Imran has left an indelible mark on the industry, collaborating with renowned agencies such as Ninjas Models, Purple Thoughts, Runway Lifestyle, and Looks Unisex Salon, among others.
His talent has garnered attention not only domestically but also internationally, with several international agencies expressing interest in his work.
“Some people also discouraged me, but I continued to follow my passion and did not look back. We should encourage our children to pursue their dreams,” he asserts, embodying resilience in the face of skepticism.
Over the past one year, Imran has worked in TVCs, fashion shows, runways, and campaigns. He has also walked with India’s top-class designers including Amit Agarwal, Tarun Tehillani, Siddhartha Tytler and Kunal Rawal.
He also did TVC with famous Bollywood actor Siddhant Chaturvedi and was featured in many print shoots of Airtel, Savor and Aura. He has also campaigned for warehouses by Mudida, Tehwar, Tedfard, Neha Chopra.
