Srinagar, June 05: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has welcomed the inauguration of the direct rail link between Katra and Srinagar, terming it a historic and transformative development for Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chamber said the new rail link, set to be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on June 6, will significantly improve regional connectivity and strengthen the economic foundation of the Valley.
KCCI stated that the direct rail connectivity will not only provide immense relief to commuters but also reduce the over-dependence on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which remains vulnerable to frequent disruptions. The rail link ensures a safe, reliable, and all-weather mode of transport, which has been a longstanding need of the region.
The Chamber appreciated the efforts of the Prime Minister and the Central Government for bringing this vital infrastructure project to completion. It noted that the rail corridor will be a major catalyst for growth across key economic sectors such as tourism, trade, and logistics by reducing travel time and operational costs.
KCCI further expressed optimism that, soon, direct train services from Srinagar to Jammu and Delhi will be introduced without halting points, enhancing passenger convenience and long-distance connectivity.
The Chamber demanded the commencement of cargo train services to unlock the full economic potential of Kashmir.
