Kashmir’s Fields Come Alive: Youth Sports Surge Soars after Summer Break

Srinagar, July 10: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) has resumed the inter-zonal and school-level competitions across multiple districts in Jammu and Kashmir, marking an energetic return after the summer break. These events highlight the department’s motive to fostering sportsmanship, physical fitness and youth engagement.As per a statement issued here, in north Kashmir’s Bandipora, the Baseball (Girls U-17 & U-19) event commenced at HSS Nadihal with enthusiastic participation from various zones. Meanwhile, Anantnag witnessed a vibrant Fit India Run, flagged off from Mominabad Bypass Crossing and culminating at Donipawa Crossing. Students and staff from various institutions participated with zeal, promoting a message of health and unity. Medals were awarded to top performers in both student and staff categories. Additionally, district-level volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi, and yoga events are ongoing, further strengthening the sports ecosystem in the region. In district Ganderbal, the Inter-Zone District Level Chess Championship for Boys and Girls (U-19) was held at BHSS and GHSS Ganderbal, with Zone Ganderbal emerging victorious in the boys’ category. The competition served as a selection trial for the upcoming Provincial Level Chess Championship. Simultaneously, Zone Kangan organized an Inter-School Cricket Competition for U-17 boys, witnessing enthusiastic participation.Budgam saw the successful conduct of the Inter-Zonal District Level Football Tournament (U-17 Boys) at Sports Stadium Charar-e-Sharief and Open Ground Batpora. Selection trials for girls in handball, softball, and baseball were also held to identify fresh talent for future competitions. In Baramulla, Inter-School Zonal Level Handball and Football competitions resumed, with over 60 students participating in handball trials at HSS Kreeri and 120 students competing in football matches at High School Khawaja Bagh. These events aim to provide young athletes with a platform to showcase their skills. Kupwara also marked the return of district-level competitions with Kho-Kho (AAG Boys) and Handball (Girls) events, witnessing spirited participation from all zones. The matches highlighted the athletes’ determination and team spirit, setting the stage for upcoming inter-district contests. The Department of Youth Services and Sports remains steadfast in its mission to promote sports, youth activities and fitness among the young blood, ensuring a vibrant and active future for J&K.
