Kargil, June 22: The 28th Sindhu Darshan Utsav was celebrated for the first time in District Kargil on Friday at the Auditorium Hall, Kargil. The event was organized by the District Administration Kargil in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Center, Patiala. It featured a series of colorful programs, showcasing performances by artists from across the country, including native performers from Kargil who presented various cultural dances.
Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner/CEO of LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Suse, was the guest of honor.
In his address, Dr. Akhoon welcomed all Sindhu Darshan yatris and expressed his pride in participating in the event. He underscored the importance of being proud to be born in India, lauding the nation’s exemplary diversity and unity. “Kargil is like a mini India, where different religious communities live together in love and peace,” he said.
Dr. Akhoon highlighted Kargil’s transformation from a war zone to a region rich in natural beauty and adventure. He pointed out the district’s historical monuments, rafting sites, mountains, and trekking sites, expressing hope that these attractions would appeal to tourists. He urged the Sindhu Darshan yatris to act as ambassadors of Kargil, spreading the message to visit the district.
Reflecting on the Kargil War, Dr. Akhoon praised the people of Kargil for their active support of the Indian Army and their simplicity and loving nature.
Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Suse also welcomed the yatris and shared his privilege of being associated with the Sindhu Darshan Yatra for three years during his tenure in Leh. He assured that the district administration would continue to provide the best possible hospitality in the future and invited visitors to explore
