Srinagar, June 21: On the directions of Commissioner Mr. Faz Lul Haseeb (IAS), Joint Commissioner (Adm) Nuzhat K Qurashi (JKAS), along with senior SMC officials, conducted an extensive review of Muharram preparedness in the key Shia localities of Zadibal and Hassanabad.
The inspection aimed to ensure that all civic arrangements are in place for the peaceful and dignified observance of Muharram processions. During the visit, the team interacted with community members, listening to their concerns and feedback for better coordination and response.
Ms. Nuzhat issued clear directives for maintaining round-the-clock sanitation and waste management services throughout the observance period. The Municipal Veterinary Officer was tasked with deploying stray dog-control teams to ensure public safety.
Uninterrupted water and electricity supply, especially during peak hours of religious gatherings, was identified as a top priority. She directed immediate coordination with relevant departments to prevent any disruption in these essential services.
Street lighting, crucial for evening processions, was also reviewed, with instructions issued for prompt repair and upkeep of lights to enhance safety and visibility.
This proactive field review reflects SMC’s commitment to community well-being, ensuring that every effort is made to support a safe, respectful, and well-organized Muharram.
