Srinagar, May 04: Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar, Sunday hosted Padma Shri awardee Professor Harish Chandra Verma, one of India’s most distinguished physicists, for a special interactive lecture organised by the Department of Physics.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Tehmina Yousuf, who expressed her pride in hosting such an eminent personality. She highlighted the college’s academic achievements and its commitment to holistic education through both curricular and co-curricular initiatives. Prof. Verma’s lecture, titled “Inspiring Curiosity: Foundations and Frontiers in Physics,” captivated the audience with its seamless blend of fundamental physics concepts and personal anecdotes drawn from his illustrious research and teaching career.
He underscored the critical role of scientific curiosity and critical thinking, urging students to approach learning through exploration and problem-solving rather than rote memorisation. “Science is not about knowing all the answers, but about asking the right questions,” he remarked, drawing applause from the packed auditorium. Sharing insights into careers in science, Prof. Verma stressed the importance of perseverance, collaboration, and maintaining ethical standards in academic and research pursuits. Prof. M.A. Shah praised Prof. Verma for his rare ability to simplify complex scientific ideas, making them accessible and engaging for young minds. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Ajaz Ahmad Dar, who acknowledged the significance of the lecture in inspiring the next generation of scientists.
