Jammu, Sept 23: Jammu and Srinagar cities of the Jammu and Kashmir are going to be among the four cities of the country to have 5th generation high tech e-buses, which will soon ply on the roads of Jammu and Srinagar.
Only Bangalore and Delhi have these 5th generation high-tech e-buses equipped with cameras and have cooling and heating systems also.
Apart from this, no cash payments will be charged from the passengers travelling in these 200 e-buses in both Jammu and Srinagar. The passengers travelling in these 200 e-buses in both Jammu and Srinagar cities will have to make online payments. There will be no conductors to charge fares from the passengers in these 200 buses in both Jammu and Srinagar cities.
The passengers will have to make online payment, the facility of which will be made available in these high-tech buses. The authorities will make all arrangements to make the passengers aware about making the online payment at the time of boarding these buses.
“The trial run of these e-buses has been going on. In Jammu, it has been going on in 7 routes of the city and will continue for 3 weeks to come,” General Manager, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), Ashish Anand informed Rising Kashmir.
SO far, 51 e-buses have reached Jammu and 41 have reached Srinagar. A total of 200 e-buses will operate in the UT of J&K under the Smart City Project. The e-buses are being manufactured by Tata Motors in Karnataka (Dharwad). The J&K government has entered into an agreement for 12 years with Tata Motors for 200 e-buses.
Both Jammu and Srinagar will have one hundred (100) e-buses each under the Smart City Project.
The J&K government will pay Rs 55.62 per/km for 12 mtr long buses and Rs 47 per/km for 9 mtr long buses.
The cost of a 9 mtr long e-bus is Rs 1.25 cr, while the cost of a 12 mtr long e-bus is Rs 1.5 cr. This is for the first time in the J&K UT that fully Air-Conditioned e-buses would be plying on the roads of J&K under the ‘Gross Cost Contract Model’.
