Srinagar, Feb 10: To enhance and safeguard children’s rights within schools in Jammu and Kashmir, the Department of Inclusive and Special Education at SCERT Kashmir is conducted training sessions for teachers at the district level. This initiative aims to promote and protect child rights in educational settings.
Masood Ali Mir, Head of the Department of Inclusive and Special Education at SCERT Kashmir, informed Rising Kashmir that a capacity-building workshop has already been organized to develop a training manual aimed at sensitizing teachers regarding the protection of child rights. The workshop featured 20 resource persons with academic expertise in various fields, including Psychology, Sociology, Law, Education, Political Science, Special Education, History, and Teaching Pedagogy and some national level (NCERT) content writers participated in the workshop.
“The purpose of the workshop was to create a training manual specifically tailored to educate teachers on the promotion and protection of child rights. This manual will equip educators with practical guidance, real-life case studies, and effective strategies to support and safeguard children in their classrooms,” he said.
He said that to ensure a comprehensive understanding and to achieve the intended goals and outcomes of the workshop, two expert resource persons led various sessions.
Syed Mujtaba, a Child Rights Lawyer and Coordinator at CGWC (IMHANS Kashmir), conducted a session entitled “Identification of Scenarios: Where We Need Child Right Protection and Promotion within the School Premises.”
“Throughout this five-day workshop, the SCERT Faculty provided training to key field functionaries and DIET Faculty from across the Kashmir division. The rights of children, which schools are obligated to protect and promote within classrooms, were thoroughly documented during this workshop. Furthermore, plans are in place to extend training to teachers at the district level, thereby ensuring the promotion and protection of child rights in all schools throughout Jammu and Kashmir” Mir added.
