JKHEC Executive Committee Meet: Inter-varsity collaboration crucial for NEP-2020 implementation: V-C JKHEC

Srinagar, Oct 22: To continue advancing educational reforms and knowledge innovations in Jammu and Kashmir, the University of Kashmir (KU) hosted the Executive Committee Meeting of the Jammu & Kashmir Higher Education Council (JKHEC) here Saturday.
The meeting, chaired by Vice-Chairman, JKHEC, Prof Dinesh Singh, aimed to review the progress made by universities in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and the achievements made by the higher education institutions (HEIs) across the region.
Commissioner Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, Dr Rashmi Singh; Special Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr Ravi Shankar Sharma, senior officials and vice chancellors from universities in Jammu and Kashmir, including the University of Jammu, Cluster University of Srinagar, SKUAST-Kashmir, SKUAST-Jammu, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), as well as experts from institutions such as Delhi University and IIT Bombay, attended the high-level meeting.
The vice chancellors shared the achievements of their respective institutions that was followed by detailed discussions on the agenda of the meeting. Key topics included enhancing inter-university collaboration, optimising the use of technology in education, faculty training and promoting entrepreneurship in the curriculum, besides other innovative endeavours.
Appreciating the efforts of the participating universities in paving the way for successful implementation NEP-2020, V-C JKHEC, Prof Dinesh Singh, underscored the need for inter-university collaboration to transform the educational landscape, as envisioned by the policy.
“It’s crucial that we ensure all academic and administrative requirements are met within the stipulated timeframe to achieve the policy goals,” he reiterated.
Prof Singh also highlighted the importance of addressing the fundamentals of the policy — transdisciplinarity, integrating sports and co-curricular activities, encouraging entrepreneurship and promoting holistic education.
“Creating a clear blueprint for implementing these elements is essential for effective educational transformation,” he maintained.
Earlier, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, in her welcome address, expressed her gratitude to Prof Dinesh Singh for choosing KU as the venue for this prestigious meeting.
“Hosting this important gathering reflects KU’s commitment to advancing educational reforms in line with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020,” she said while acknowledging the Council’s ongoing support for the varsity’s efforts in implementing the NEP-2020.
The Executive Committee resolved to establish an action plan and a monitoring committee to oversee the implementation of the NEP and track progress across institutions. The meeting concluded with a commitment.
