Kulgam, Nov 28: A seminar titled “Fundamentals of Urdu Poetry” was held on Tuesday at Government Degree College (GDC) Damhal Hanjipora. The event was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) in collaboration with the college. The event involved discussions, talks, and poetry readings.
The seminar was presided over by Ali Shaida, a respected poet. Professor Shariq Zahida Deva was a special guest; Mahira Abida Wahid, Dr. Ma’roof Shah, and Professor Rashid Aziz attended as guests, alongside representatives from Shiraza Academy, Dr. Javaid Jahan, and Muhammad Salim Salik.
Dr. Rashid Aziz presented his speech titled “The Fundamentals of Urdu Poetry”, followed by engaging discussions and a Question-and-Answer session.
The event showcased the unveiling of the college magazine “Noorabad,” Shiraza Urdu Academy’s publications “Safarnama Volume I and Volume II,” and Taliq Rashid’s travelogue “Kashmir to Foreign.”
Dr. Ma’roof Shah and Mahira Abida Wahid shared their experiences from the seminar. Several other poets also shed light on Urdu Poetry.
The event saw the participation of a diverse group of influential figures from various fields, alongside poets, scholars, and a substantial number of students.
A college student said that events like these are the need of the hour, as they revive languages and keep us on track in reading diverse literature in addition to English.
“We are fortunate to have attended the event at the college and hope to be a part of it in the future as well. Even though we contribute to the college magazine, which gives us a boost in literature and culture,” he said.
