Srinagar, Jul 05: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah, on the solemn observance of Youm-e-Ashura, recalled the ultimate sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at the Battle of Karbala as a timeless symbol of courage, faith, and resistance against tyranny.In a statement issued here, Dr Abdullah said that the unparalleled sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Aali Muqam (AS) and his companions remains a guiding light for all humanity. “Imam Hussain (AS) is not the legacy of a particular sect, but a universal figure whose steadfastness, sacrifice, and moral integrity continue to inspire generations. His resistance against injustice and oppression carries an eternal message of hope, justice, and dignity,” he said.He added, “The martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) teaches us that those who uphold truth and righteousness achieve immortality, while tyrants, regardless of their temporary victories, are ultimately condemned by history. May the observance of Youm-e-Ashura lead us all towards peace, harmony, and spiritual renewal, not only in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, but across the country.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo paid rich tributes to the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and other martyrs of Karbala.In her tribute, Itoo said that the supreme sacrifices by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala exemplify unmatched courage and patience, which will continue to enlighten mankind. “The lesson that Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions taught us of not bowing or succumbing before forces of evil is the guiding light for all entire mankind,” Sakeena said.The minister urged people to follow the principles of the martyrs of Karbala for establishing a just society, which symbolises unity and love for each other. She prayed for peace, progress and prosperity of the entire Jammu and Kashmir.

Ashok Koul, BJP General Secretary (Organisation) for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, participated in the 9th Muharram procession in Budgam, extending a gesture of solidarity with the Shia Muslim community. During the procession, he also distributed water to the participants as a mark of respect and service.Speaking on the occasion, Koul said, “Muharram is a time of deep reflection and remembrance. It teaches us about sacrifice, truth, and standing up for justice.
