Srinagar, Aug 21: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday claimed that Jammu & Kashmir has been going through a “difficult phase” since the abrogation of Article 370 five years ago. She said her party seeks to establish “peace with dignity”.
She made these remarks at a function held at the party headquarters here, where former Rajouri MLA Chaudhary Qamar Hussain rejoined the party. Hussain had previously been expelled from the PDP in 2020, along with five other leaders, for meeting with the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor and a delegation of foreign envoys. Following his expulsion, Hussain joined the Apni Party led by former J&K minister Altaf Bukhari.
Welcoming Hussain back into the fold, Mufti said, “I am happy that he has come back to the party.”
She further said that not only the PDP but the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir has been facing “challenges” over the past five years.
