Jammu, Dec 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Ex-Legislators Welfare Council held a meeting on Monday at the MLA Hostel here which was chaired by Qazi-Jalal-u-Din, former MLA and Chairman of the council.
The event was organised by Babu Ram Paul, former minister and Vice-chairman of the council. The meeting began with heartfelt tributes to Dr Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the nation.
While remembering him, Babu Ram Paul highlighted Dr Singh’s monumental role in shaping India’s economy. He described Dr Singh as the “architect of the Indian economy”, detailing his achievements as a two-time Prime Minister, Finance Minister, six-time Member of Rajya Sabha, Chairman of the UGC, Governor of the RBI, and Deputy Planning Commissioner of India.
“Dr Manmohan Singh was a statesman and a visionary leader whose efforts transformed the nation’s economic landscape,” Rampaul said.
The council also remembered Choudhary Pyara Singh, senior vice-chairman and founder member of the council, for his social, political, and visionary contributions to Jammu and Kashmir. Tributes were also paid to other leaders, including Thakur Rashpal Singh, Thakur Kashmir Singh, Davinder Singh Rana, and Gulam Hasan Khan, acknowledging their service and dedication.
The council discussed various issues about the welfare of ex-legislators in Jammu and Kashmir. The members unanimously demanded the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, emphasising its importance for the larger interests of the people and the nation.
Additionally, the council welcomed the decision of the J&K government, led by Omar Abdullah, to resume the “Darbar Move”, calling it a wise and positive step toward fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
It was unanimously decided to take up all pending issues concerning ex-legislators with the concerned authorities for their prompt resolution.
The meeting was attended by several prominent ex-legislators, including Gulam Hasan Khan (Ex-Minister), Gulam Rasool Naaz (Ex-MLA), Bharat Gandhi (Ex-MLA), Gulam Qadar Wani (Ex-MLC), Smt. Dupinder Kour (Ex-MLC), Dhayan Chand (Ex-MLA), Iqbal Bhat (Ex-MLC), Bhushan Lal Bhat (Ex-MLC), Sagar Chand (Ex-MLA), Sayad Ahmad Rizvi (Ex-MLC), and others.
The meeting concluded with a resolve to work collectively for the welfare of former legislators and the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
