Srinagar, Nov 07: Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) leader and MLA Langate, Sheikh Khurshid on Thursday made a dramatic gesture in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly which grabbed the attention of all those present in the House.
Following in the footsteps of his brother, the AIP chief Er Rashid, Sheikh Khurshid jumped into Well of the House, an act that immediately stole the spotlight.
Khurshid, a teacher-turned-politician, said his primary responsibility is to represent the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. “I have been elected by the people to serve them, and I am committed to fulfilling the promises I made to them,” he told Rising Kashmir.
He said his actions in the Assembly reflect his commitment to justice for the people of the Kashmir Valley.
The MLA expressed his concerns over the National Conference (NC) for “not fully supporting” resolutions related to Article 370 and 35A, stating that the party had presented a “weak resolution” which they did not have enough time to review properly.
“As soon as we read it and found it to be in favour of Kashmiri people, we voted in support. Today, we brought a crystal-clear resolution, but the NC chose not to support us,” he said.
Khurshid said his aim is not to create false hopes for the people of Jammu and Kashmir but to deliver on his electoral promises. “I will continue to make every effort in the Assembly to fulfill the promises I made during my election campaign,” he added, criticising the NC for not living up to its promises to the people.
The AIP leader dismissed criticism from the opposition, who accused him of performing “drama” in the Assembly. “I am here to be the voice of my people, and what the opposition says does not matter to me,” he asserted.
