Srinagar, June 20: The two-day mega international conference on ‘Precision Medicine in Allergic Disorders concluded on Tuesday at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, (SKIMS) Srinagar on Tuesday.
During the mega event, the speakers stated that precision medicine holds great promise for the future of allergic disorders by enabling more accurate diagnosis, personalized treatment plans, and improved patient outcomes.
The mega event was organised by the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine under the aegis of the World Allergy Organization. Over 300 delegates from the country and abroad attended the academic event.
A number of national and international leaders in the field of allergy presided over the discussion of the future course of action as well as the significance of allergy awareness and management.
Speakers stated that precision medicine is transforming the field of allergen-specific immunotherapy, which is a treatment approach for allergies that involves exposing patients to small, controlled amounts of allergens to desensitize their immune system.
They claimed that with precision medicine, healthcare providers can identify the specific allergens triggering an individual’s allergic reactions through comprehensive testing, such as component-resolved diagnostics. It allows for personalized allergen immunotherapy that targets the patient’s specific allergies, improving treatment outcomes, speakers said.
The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Farooq A. Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS, who was Chief Guest on the occasion. He said the administration will continue to extend their support to such events in future and appreciated the department for successfully hosting the mega event.
The 2nd day began with the lecture on ‘The outcome of Immunotherapy-A Kashmir Experience’ was presented by Dr. Ghulam Hassan. It was followed by lecture of Prof. PK Vedanthan on ‘Delabeling Drug Allergies. The session was Chaired by Dr Akbar Shah, Dr Syed Mudasir Qadri and Dr Shakeel Ahmad.
Prof. Sunil Dogra and Dr. Ankur Jindal delivered their expert talk on Diagnosis of Management of HAE. The session was chaired by Prof. Fayaz A Sofi, Prof. Syed Mubashir, Dr. Dhanesh Volvokar.
Prof. Hugo PS Van Bever delivered a talk on ‘Emerging Concepts and therapies for food allergy management. Dr. Soumya Nagarajan presented an expert talk on ‘Oral Immunotherapy (OIT)-An Indian experience’. The session was chaired by Dr Anand Pendakar, Dr. Nagendra Prasad, Dr Javaid Iqbal and Dr Mir Faisal.
Dr. PC Kathuria delivered a lecture on ‘ Biologicals in allergic disorders’, it was followed by another lecture by Prof. Reyaz Malik on ‘AIT in Children-Catch them Young’ .
The third scientific session was chaired by Prof. Asif Wani, Prof. Manzoor Latoo and Dr. Rafiq A Pampori.
Dr. Gayatri Pandit delivered her lecture on ‘Role of Biologicals in Chronic Rhinosinusitis’ and it was followed by another lecture on Allergic Rhinitis: Understand the Disease and Learn the Manage by Dr. Anand Pendakar.
Similarly Dr.Kiran Godse delivered a lecture on Management of Resistant Chronic spontaneous Urticaria. It was followed by another talk on Anaphylaxis-the take of a survivor was delivered by Dr Zaheer Abbas Shah. The session was chaired by Prof. Iffat Hassan Shah, Dr Shagufta and Dr Sunita Chappola.
Expert talk on Psychological Triggers of Allergic disorders was delivered by Dr Ravikant Zala and it was followed by another lecture on Cross Reactivity and Incompatibility among Allergens by Dr. DM Tripathi.
In his message, Director SKIMS Prof ( Dr) Parvaiz Koul congratulated the department for organising the mega event. He said such events are the need of the hour and urged the department to organise such events in future.
Surprise quizzes and poster presentations were organized throughout the event in addition to the different informational scientific sessions that were presided over by famous physicians and researchers from across the world.
This intellectual feast drew enthusiastic participation from students from a variety of disciplines both inside and outside the institution.
Out of 14 poster presentations, 3 were awarded as the best ones including Batool Zahra, Yawar Ashraf and Sana Hafeez from Dr Qadri’s College of MLT, Rabiya Sadeeq from Para Medical College SKIMS were awarded best posters from paramedical side, While Dr Anam Shameem Hakak from GMC was awarded the best poster from Medical side respectively.
