The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), in collaboration with KAS India, Centre of School, CRRiD, Forum of Federations, and TISS, hosted a significant two-day international conference from March 6th to March 7th, 2024. The conference, themed “Navigation the Crisis of Climate Change in Kashmir and Northern Himalayan Regions of India: The Role of Cooperative Federalism,” aimed to address the pressing environmental challenges faced by the region.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Adrian Haack, Director of KAS India, setting the tone for insightful discussions ahead. Distinguished speakers, including Dr. Rupak Chattopadhyay, CEO and President of Forum of Federations (Online), and Prof. Rekha Saxena from the University of Delhi, Honorary Senior Advisor at Forum of Federations, provided valuable insights into the multifaceted aspects of climate change and the importance of cooperative federalism in addressing these challenges.

Throughout the conference, various panel discussions, deliberations, and presentations were held, featuring experts from across the country sharing their knowledge and experiences in combating climate change.

An exceptional highlight of the conference was the felicitation of NLCO Chairman, Mr. Manzoor Wangnoo, for his outstanding contributions towards environmental conservation in Jammu and Kashmir especially his recent eco endeavour of “Mission Ehsaas” restoration of Gilsar-Khushalsar urban lakes. Mr. Wangnoo expressed his gratitude to the organizers for the prestigious recognition and dedicated the award to the LG administration (especially SMC & LC&MA), Team NLCO, well-wishers, and stakeholders for their unwavering support in the mission towards environmental sustainability.

The First day of conference concluded on a high note, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change and fostering a sustainable future for generations to come.(KNS).
