Budgam, July 10: With summer vacations now over and the weather turning pleasant across the Kashmir Valley, sports activities have gained momentum, especially in Budgam district, where the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) has launched a series of inter-zonal tournaments to promote youth engagement and physical fitness.A statement issued here, as part of these efforts, the Inter-Zonal District Level Football Tournament (Boys Category) is currently being held at the Sports Ground Batapora, Kanihama. The tournament features participation from six zones of the district—Soibug, Magam, Narbal, Budgam, Hardu Panzo, and Beerwah, with players competing in the 14 to 19 years age group.In the Under-17 category, the opening matches witnessed spirited performances. In the first match, Zone Soibug defeated Zone Narbal, while in the second encounter, Zone Magam secured a victory over Zone Hardu Panzo, thus qualifying for the next round. The tournament is being held under the strict supervision of venue in-charge Mudasir Ahmad, and was closely monitored by senior Physical Education Masters, who were present at the ground to guide and motivate the young athletes. Their encouragement added to the competitive atmosphere and inspired the players to showcase their best skills. DYSS officials emphasized that such tournaments are being organized across different zones in the district with great enthusiasm, reaffirming the department’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering sportsmanship among youth. The ongoing tournament not only provides a platform for budding footballers but also reflects the growing enthusiasm for sports in rural Kashmir. With community support and official backing, Budgam continues to emerge as a vibrant hub for school-level athletic activities.
