Bandipora, Oct 08: In a closely contested race for the Bandipora assembly constituency, Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Nizam-ud-din Bhat emerged victorious over his arch-rival Usman Majid, winning by a margin of 811 votes.
Bhat secured a total of 20,391 votes from a turnout of 73,772, while Majid received 19,580 votes. The contest was anticipated to be tight, with exit polls indicating a close fight between the two candidates.
After receiving his winning certificate, Bhat expressed his gratitude to the voters for their support. He acknowledged previous concerns about possible rigging but commended the administration and the Election Commission of India for conducting the elections peacefully.
Bhat’s victory was bolstered by a strong showing in the Naidkhai area during the final round of counting, which played a crucial role in his overall lead.
