Srinagar, June 25: The Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department has designated two health facilities each with Government Medical College, Handwara and Government Medical College, Udhampur for training purposes.
“Sanction is hereby accorded to the designation of Health Centres as Urban Training Health Centre and Rural Training Health Centres to Government Medical College, Handwara and Government Medical College, Udhampur,” the H&ME in an order.

Similarly, UPHC Bharat Nagar Channi has been designated as Urban Training Health Centre and PHC Garhi Tikri as Rural Training Health Centre with the GMC Udhampur.
The move is aimed to fulfill the requirements of the Medical Council of India (MCI) for the MBBS courses in the new medical colleges.
A high-ranking official in H&ME said the health institution will work as an associated hospital of the new GMC and will act as the center of excellence in medical education.
“Now the health institution will be augmented with staff and infrastructure and will work 24/7 which will improve the patient care and quality treatment,” he said.
