Shopian, Jan 12: The two-day Heemal Nagrai Winter Carnival at Dubjan Shopian wrapped up successfully on Sunday, attracting large crowds of both locals and tourists.
The festival, which drew unprecedented numbers of attendees, offered a vibrant celebration of winter tourism and adventure in the scenic region of Shopian.
On the concluding day, thousands flocked to Dubjan to enjoy a variety of snow games, including snow volleyball, hockey, and tug of war. Adventurers also participated in thrilling activities such as zip lining, skiing, snow trekking, ATV rides, snow biking, and horse riding, with some heading on a horseback journey to the Hot Sulphur Springs of Dubjan.
The festival highlighted the natural beauty of Shopian, particularly along the Mughal Road and the Heerpora Wildlife Network. In addition to the adventure activities, local cultural performances and art exhibitions, showcasing Kashmiri and tribal art, delighted festival-goers.
An award ceremony during the event honored various stakeholders, including adventure groups, traders’ associations, media representatives, and government departments. The Deputy Commissioner of Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, praised the local community’s enthusiastic participation, which played a key role in the event’s success. The carnival is expected to boost tourism and further promote the stunning attractions of Shopian.
NSS units of GGM Science College celebrate NYD in Jammu
Jammu, Jan 12: The NSS units of GGM Science College, Jammu, Sunday celebrated National Youth Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
The event was marked by enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers, Program Officers (POS), faculty members, and students.
Principal Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta graced the occasion and delivered an inspiring address, encouraging the youth to embody Swami Vivekananda’s values of service, determination and dedication.
Dr. Gupta highlighted the significance of youth in shaping the future of the nation and urged students to actively engage in community service and nation-building activities. The program also featured a live streaming of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the youth, where he emphasized the pivotal role of young minds in driving India towards development and innovation. The volunteers and students attentively participated in the session, drawing motivation from the Prime Minister’s words.
The NSS POS shared insights on youth empowerment, social service, and the importance of self-discipline. They motivated the students to carry forward the mission of Swami Vivekananda by contributing meaningfully to society. The celebration concluded with a pledge by all attendees to uphold the values of integrity, service, and dedication towards building a better India.
