HC to observe winter vacation from January 2nd

The High Court (HC) of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Thursday announced winter vacation for Srinagar and Jammu wings of the HC, commencing from January 02, 2023.

In this connection, an order was issued by the Registrar General of the High Court, Sanjeev Gupta stating that the High Court will remain closed for winter vacation from January 02, 2023 to January 28, 2023 (both days inclusive).

Moreover, the period commencing from 2nd to 7th of January, 2023 shall be ‘No Work Period’ for the High Court.

In terms of Rule 12 of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Rules, 1999, the Acting Chief Justice of the HC, Tashi Rabstan has also nominated judges for the both wings of the HC of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh as vacation judges to hear all matters of urgent nature.

For the Jammu wing, the Chief Justice has nominated Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi as vacation judge for a period of six days from January 09, 2023 to January 14, 2023. Justice Javed Rahul Bharti will hold the court as vacation judge from January 16 to January 21, 2023. The Acting Chief Justice nominated Justice Mohammad Akram Chowdhary as vacation judge for the period of six days from January 23 to January 28, 2023.

While, for Srinagar wing, the Acting Chief Justice nominated Justice Rajesh Sekhri as vacation judge for the period of six days from January 09 to January 14, 2023 while Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal will hold the court as vacation judge from January 16 to January 21, 2023. The Acting Chief Justice also nominated Justice Mohan Lal as vacation judge for the Srinagar wing for a period of six days from January 23 to January 28, 2023.

Meanwhile, the High Court also announced a 15-day winter vacation in subordinate courts in Kashmir division, Jammu division and the courts in Ladakh as well with effect from January 02, 2023.

As per the notification issued by the Registrar General of the High Court, Sanjeev Gupta, the Subordinate Courts in Kashmir Province and the Courts located in district Kishtwar, Doda and some courts in Ramban will observe 15 days of vacation from 2 January to January 16, 2023.

“It is notified for the information of all concerned that the Subordinate Courts in Kashmir Province and the Courts located in district Kishtwar; district Doda; and Courts located at Batote, Gaol, Banihal and Ukhral in District Ramban and Bani in District Kathua of Jammu Division in the Union Territory of J&K as well as all Courts located in the Union Territory of Ladakh shall observe 15 days winter vacations with effect from January 02, 2023 to January 16, 2023 (both days inclusive),” the order reads.

The Principal District and Sessions Judges and Chief Judicial Magistrates of the concerned districts were asked to make the suitable arrangements for disposal of urgent criminal business arising during the period of such vacations in the areas within their respective jurisdictions.
