Handwara, Aug 05: In a remarkable display of ingenuity, a local mechanic from Handwara has transformed an old Bajaj scooter into a six-seater vehicle, showcasing Kashmir’s innovative spirit.
Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganie, a 37-year-old mechanic from Sudergund village, has engineered a remarkable conversion that allows the modified scooter to run 40 kilometers on just one liter of fuel. Ganie, who has been involved in bike repairs since his youth, saved approximately 30,000 rupees to fund this ambitious project.
Ganie shared his journey with Rising Kashmir, expressing his long-held desire to innovate despite financial constraints. “I have always wanted to create something new and affordable, but financial challenges held me back. After saving up, I took on this project. Although I initially doubted its feasibility, my confidence in my work kept me motivated,” he said.
The converted scooter, now a three-wheeler with a capacity for six passengers, has drawn significant attention from locals and visitors from neighboring villages. Ganie noted that the vehicle is nearly complete but will undergo further testing to ensure stability before it is officially put on the road.
Ganie expressed hope that his project would receive government support, enabling him to develop more low-cost transportation solutions for the region. “I am optimistic that the government will recognize the potential of this project and offer support,” he added.
Locals praise Ganie for his skills and generosity, noting that he charges minimal fees for repairs and sometimes fixes bikes for free for those in need. They believe that with the right opportunities, Ganie could revolutionize the three-wheeler industry. “If given a chance by any company, he could bring a significant change,” a resident remarked.
