Srinagar, Feb 25: The Srinagar District Congress Committee (DCC) on Tuesday held a crucial meeting to discuss the party’s initiative “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq”, aimed at pushing for the restoration of complete statehood to Jammu & Kashmir.
The meeting reviewed preparations for an upcoming political convention, which is part of the statewide mission launched by the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) under the leadership of Tariq Hameed Karra.
During the meeting, speakers reaffirmed their strong resolve to not rest until full statehood is restored with all constitutional guarantees. They criticised the downgrading of J&K into two Union Territories, calling it a deliberate move to disempower the people.
“Congress is committed to reversing this injustice. The Modi government has systematically disempowered the people of J&K on political, economic, and developmental fronts. We will fight against this until full statehood is reinstated,” party leaders declared.
Congress leaders announced that district-level conventions are already underway in Jammu region (Phase I), with Phase II set to cover all districts in Kashmir.
The meeting also focused on public issues, urging the J&K administration to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Ramadan, control price hikes on essential goods and ensure departments function efficiently for public welfare.
Senior leaders including Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Irfan Naqib, Dr Waleed Karra, Er Danish and Seerat Bashir addressed the gathering, criticizing the BJP-led government for delaying statehood. They vowed to fight with full vigour to “restore the dignity and honour” of the people of J&K.
“Modi government’s policies have left the people of J&K politically and economically vulnerable. Congress will ensure justice prevails and statehood is restored,” they said.
The party urged workers to mobilise for the upcoming political convention and send a strong message to the Centre that the people of J&K will not accept their disempowerment.
