Budgam, July 02: Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Front (JKPDF) and former minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has urged the administration for foolproof Muharram arrangements in various areas of Jammu and Kashmir, including Shia-dominated areas of Budgam and Khansahib. He also advocated for allowing traditional Muharram processions across the valley to respect the religious practices of the people.
In a statement issued here, Hakeem said, “Muharram is one of the holiest religious affairs, revered by the Muslim Ummah to commemorate and observe the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions.”
Yaseen urged the administration to make all necessary arrangements to facilitate the observance of this religious event smoothly, with full religious fervour and sanctity. He sought uninterrupted water and power supply in and around various Imambaras and Shia-dominated areas. He called for immediate repairs and black-topping of all roads, lanes, and inner links leading to various Imambaras.
The PDF chief highlighted the need for a sustained cleanliness drive in all Shia-dominated areas by pooling resources from concerned local and municipal bodies. He requested the administration to deploy additional water tankers in these areas to ensure devotees do not face any inconvenience. “An additional quota of ration, sugar, LPG, and kerosene should be ensured for consumers. The authorities should also intensify market checking to control the prices of essential commodities,” he added.
The former minister called for adequate street lighting arrangements in and around various Imambaras. He asked field agencies and engineers of various departments in Budgam district to conduct thorough visits to about 15 Shia-dominated villages in the Khansahib constituency to make necessary arrangements for Muharram.
Hakeem further urged for adequate medical facilities including first aid camps and additional ambulance services. He requested the administration to allow traditional Muharram processions across the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Srinagar district, to respect the religious sentiments of the people.
