Budgam, Aug 27: Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has sought adequate arrangements for the weeklong annual Urs of Hazrat Sultan Ali Aali Balkhi (RA) which will be observed from August 29 (Tuesday) at Pakherpora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
In a statement issued here, Hakeem Yaseen called for round-the-clock power and drinking water supply in Pakhepora and adjacent areas for the convenience of the devotees. He said mobile tankers must be kept available to meet any exigency.
“The R&B Department should make necessary repairs to all the roads leading to the shrine from both Budgam and Pulwama sides wherever required,” he said.
Yaseen urged the administration for streetlights in the whole Pakherpora area besides illumination of the shrine complex on the eve of the Urs. He called for ensuring sufficient stocks and supply of essential commodities including rice, atta, sugar, cooking gas and kerosene oil to consumers during the Urs days.
“Additional ration quota should be ensured for local consumers to meet the demand on account of heavy rush of devotees. The market checking squads should be activated in Pakherpora to check illegal profiteering, hoarding and black marketing by unscrupulous traders,” he said.
The PDF chairman asked the district administration to ensure an adequate number of passenger vehicles for hassle-free transportation of the devotees visiting the shrine, from Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Chadoora (Budgam) and Srinagar up to Pakherpora and vice versa for the convenience of the devotees.
The former minister said that Chief Medical Officer Budgam should set up medical first aid centers at various vintage spots en route Pakherpora during the Urs days to meet any exigency. He asked the concerned officers of Urban Local Bodies to ensure sanitation and cleanliness in the town so that the shrine premises are kept clean and garbage-free.
