Srinagar, Jan 18: Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam has commended the swift actions taken by the police against those attempting to incite sectarian unrest, stating that Shia-Sunni harmony is crucial for the future.

Speaking at a joint meeting held at Mufti Azam’s office, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam strongly warned that any efforts to divide the community would not be tolerated.

“Shia-Sunni unity is the need of the hour. Those who attempt to create divisions will face severe consequences,” Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam warned. He also expressed his firm stance against any attempt to undermine religious values or promote movements against Sharia law, adding, “If anyone dares to repeat such actions, it will be dealt with strictly.”

Addressing the future of J&K and the moral conduct of its people, the Grand Mufti stressed the importance of ethical conduct in maintaining the values of the society. “Those who have taken the lead against Sharia and ethical principles must repent publicly and seek forgiveness from the community,” he stated, urging individuals involved in such movements to sincerely apologize and make amends.

He further mentioned that any future acts of incitement or sectarian division would result in social ostracism and a complete boycott. “We will not tolerate any disruption to our culture or ethics,” Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam warned. He also urged the government to keep a vigilant eye on religious institutions to ensure they do not become breeding grounds for harmful behavior, including the use of drugs or alcohol. “We will never allow such activities, especially in the vicinity of mosques,” he asserted.

The Grand Mufti also highlighted the formation of a joint committee to discuss future issues and prevent sectarian tensions. “This committee will focus on resolving incidents of this nature and ensuring that our community remains united,” Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam added.
