Srinagar, March 06: The Jammu & Kashmir Assembly took up the issue of the long-pending demand for the construction of the Sadhana Tunnel in Karnah Constituency, acknowledging the persistent requests from locals.
In response to a starred question by legislator Javaid Ahmad Mirchal, the Public Works (R&B) Department confirmed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the tunnel is currently under preparation by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
The people of Karnah have been demanding the tunnel for years, as they remain disconnected from the rest of the valley for long periods due to heavy snowfall in winter. The lack of an all-weather road has severely impacted daily life, emergency services, and economic activities in the area.
The government assured that once the DPR is finalized and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (GoI) grants approval, the project will move to the execution stage.
Residents have welcomed the government’s response but urged authorities to expedite the process, emphasizing that the tunnel is a lifeline for the region and must not be delayed any further.
