Srinagar, Sept 06:

New Delhi, Sept 06:The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has earmarked four MBBS seats from the central pool for the academic year 2024-25 specifically for the spouses and children of deceased or disabled civilian victims of terrorism. This decision, communicated on August 23, aims to support the families of those affected by terrorism by providing access to medical education.
The MHA’s directive, sent to Chief Secretaries across all states and Union Territories, emphasizes the need for wide publicity regarding this opportunity. The seats will be distributed as follows: one each to AN Magadh Medical College in Gaya, Bihar, and Grant Medical College in Mumbai, Maharashtra; and two to Pt. JNM Medical College in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Eligible candidates must either be the spouse or children of deceased or disabled terrorism victims. To qualify, applicants must be Indian nationals, have reached the age of 17 by December 31 of the year of admission, and meet the academic criteria set by the National Medical Commission. This includes passing Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Bio-Technology, and English in the 12th grade with a minimum aggregate of 50 percent (40 percent for SC/ST/OBC and 45 percent for Gen-PH/SC-PWD/ST-PWD/OBC-PWD).
Additionally, candidates must achieve the 50th percentile in the NEET (UG) 2024 examination, with relaxed criteria for SC, ST, and OBC candidates, as well as those with special disabilities. Priority will be given to children whose parents have been killed by terrorists, those from families who lost their sole breadwinners, and victims with permanent disabilities or serious injuries.
Applications must be submitted by September 17, 2024, via speed or registered post to be considered. The MHA has clarified that this deadline will not be extended and no reminders will be issued.
