Udhampur, Jan 13: The Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur under the aegis of IQAC celebrated the Lohri festival with great enthusiasm and fervor at college campus on January
11, 2024.
The festival, which is an integral part of Punjabi and Dogra cultures, was marked with traditional rituals, music and dance. The entire program begins with offering “Aarg” to the sacred bonfire
by the Principal of the college, Dr. Nalini Pathania, along with staff members and students of the college.
The NSS & NCC unit, Department of Music and Sports Department actively contributed to the organization of the event, ensuring its smooth execution. Principal of the college , Dr. Nalini Pathania, in her address to the students, emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage
and staying connected to roots through festivals like Lohri. She encouraged students to embrace unity, teamwork, and the spirit of giving back to society. Dr. Pathania commended the efforts of all
departments, volunteers, and students for their dedication in making the event a grand success.
On the occasion, the event was marked by vibrant dance performances, rhythmic beats of the dhol, and the showcasing of Dogra cultural elements. Typical dogra folk dance ‘hiran’ was performed by the students from the Department of Music which was highly appreciated by all the faculty members and enjoyed by all students.
