Ganderbal, Jan 17: Zahoor Ahmad Shah, hailing from Mammer area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district transformed his life through his venture into trout farming.
Zahoor’s journey started in 2010 when the fisheries department identified his site as an ideal canvas for trout culture. He submitted an application for a trout unit, receiving not just approval but also a crucial financial boost of Rs 1.5 lakh.
Armed with essential resources, Zahoor stocked his pond with 5000 Trout seeds, yielding an impressive profit of Rs. 1.5 lakh in the first year.
Undeterred by challenges, he actively pursued knowledge through training programs and awareness camps, recognizing its pivotal role in the success of fish culture.
Determined to expand his horizons, Zahoor, in 2020-21, leveraged his newfound knowledge of the PMSSY scheme and approached the Department of Fisheries. The outcome was spectacular – two more raceways were sanctioned, showcasing his unwavering commitment and resolute spirit.
Over the past two years, Zahoor’s Trout Unit has flourished, yielding over 28 quintals of fish. Beyond the monetary gains, this success has elevated Zahoor’s socio-economic status, turning his venture into a full-fledged source of employment.
Zahoor Ahmad Shah’s inspiring journey serves as a reminder that with determination, opportunity, and dedication, dreams can flourish even in the face of adversity. His story stands as a testament to the transformative power of embracing challenges and turning them into opportunities for success and upliftment.
