Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will be in Bangladesh today. The External Affairs Ministry spokesperson has said that the visit of the Foreign Secretary is part of the structured interactions with Bangladesh. It must be noted that this visit has been scheduled after New Delhi had asked Bangladesh Government to ensure safety and security of Hindus and other minorities due to the selective genocidal attrition inflicted on them by the radicalised society with the tacit support of the present dispensation. In the previous week Bangladesh Police had arrested Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari by accusing him of sedition and he was denied bail as well. His arrest has invited widespread unrest and concern in In India. People are asking the Indian Government to ensure the safety and security of minorities in Bangladesh. In this connection the External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson has said, “We have spoken on this issue earlier. We would like to reiterate our expectation that relevant legal processes underway in Bangladesh are executed in a fair, just and transparent manner, ensuring full respect for the legal rights of concerned individuals.” It is pertinent to mention that Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari had been leading the rallies and protests in Bangladesh demanding security and safeguard of the human rights of the Hindus who are being subjected to genocide in Bangladesh after the dethronement of the democratically elected Sheikh Hasina government. Das was arrested while he was travelling to Chattogram in South Eastern Bangladesh. After that situation has turned from bad to worst in Bangladesh. There is an open genocide of minority community going on without any effort by the Bangladesh Government to save the life and limb of the ill fated people. Not only that social media and newspaper reports and videos emanating from Bangladesh are full of hatred towards India and have waged a war of narratives. It seems that Bangladesh that was supported by India to save the people from Pakistani atrocities and genocide inflicted on its people in 1971 has ceased to exist. Bangladesh has become another Pakistan and it has been reduced to radicalised East Pakistan. It has become the mirror image of Pakistan that thrives on anti-India policies. Taking the serious note of the events unfolding in Bangladesh,The External Affairs Ministry making India’s position clear on Bangladesh has said, “We have noted with deep concern the arrest and denial of bail to Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is also the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatan Jagran Jote. This incident follows the multiple attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh. There are several documented cases of arson and looting of minorities’ homes and business establishments, as well as theft and vandalism and desecration of deities and temples. It is unfortunate that while the perpetrators of these incidents remain at large, charges should be pressed against a religious leader presenting legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings. We also note with concern the attacks on minorities protesting peacefully against the arrest of Shri Das.We urge Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, including their right of freedom of peaceful assembly and expression.” It must be underlined that he has already raised the the issue in his public statements and also telephonically with Mohammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the Bangladesh Government that has been installed after the dethronement of Sheikh Hasina’s elected government. Thus, the Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has his task cut out. It can be fairly assumed that he will deliver the message of the Indian Government in simple words that the persecution and genocide of minorities in Bangladesh will alter the India-Bangladesh relations for all times to come. India cannot afford to be the mute spectator to genocidal attrition of the minorities happening there as it will be causing a genuine public outrage in India. And India’s democratically elected government represents the will of the people in Parliament. Hope,Vikram Misri’s visit and his advice to the Bangladesh Government will make it see the reason and save the innocent lives that are being targeted.Otherwise, the relations between India and Bangladesh will not only nosedive but it can have serious repercussions for the radicalised Bangladesh and its existence.
