Food Craft Institute to be upgraded to Institute of Hotel Management

Jammu, Feb 21: Principal Secretary Skill Development Department (SDD), Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon on Tuesday chaired an officer’s meeting here at Civil Secretariat to review the upgradation of the Food Craft Institute (FCI), Nagrota. He had a detailed discussion on modalities for the upgradation of FCI to the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) and Catering Technology besides Applied Nutrition.
The meeting was informed that the institute has applied for upgradation from FCI to IHM where the students get three-year degree course in Hospitality and Hotel Administration i.e. BSc (H&HA) under the aegis of National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT). The Union Ministry of Tourism keeps a provision for the allotment of seats to FCI/IHM Jammu in the overall allotment of seats for three-year degree programme.
Dr Samoon said that a detailed proposal has been submitted for administrative approval regarding upgradation of FCI to IHM. He asked the officers to strictly follow the guidelines and rules of NCHMCT so that the degree courses could be started in the coming session.
The Principal Secretary said that the FCI provides direct employment to the youth of JKUT after the completion of training. The students from FCI get jobs at local as well as national levels in different sectors of the hotel industry. He stressed upon officers to work hard for early execution of works related to upgradation of FCI to IHM so that hostel facilities are created at the earliest for accommodating outstation students.
The Principal FCI informed the meeting that the institute is providing quality training to the youth as per the hotel industry’s demands. He informed of the requirement for staff and infrastructure in the FCI. The meeting was attended by the Senior Economic Advisor, Union Ministry of Tourism, Principal of FCI, Financial Advisor, SDD, Joint Director Planning, SDD, Superintendent Engineer, PWD and other concerned officials of the department.
