Focus on Seed to Silk instead of Seed to Cocoon: Director Sericulture J&K

Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS), Director Sericulture J&K as a part of his comprehensive outreach programme today visited various Mulberry Nurseries/Farms, Beats of District Pulwama and oversaw the preparations being undertaken for ensuing Rearing Season in District Pulwama.

During his tour he inspected the Mulberry Farms at Sathir Gund, Pampore and interacted with local Silkworm Rearers/ Farmers. Moreover he also met with the enthusiasts who are keenly interested in Sericulture Sector.

The Director Sericulture J&K further called on the Silkworm Rearers and Farmers hailing from the picturesque Village Sambora, Pulwama and took the opportunity to interact with them and shared his valuable insights into the challenges and triumphs face by Sericulture Industry.

During the occasion he lauded their dedication and encouraged them for their relentless efforts.

Moreover, in order to foster collaboration and synergy with the Central Silk Board to effectively work out modalities for achieving goals envisioned to strengthen the Sericulture Sector in a coordinated and coherent manner he met with Dr. Narendra Kumar Bhatia, Director, Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute, (CSR&TI), Central Silk Board, Pampore.

During threadbare discussions with the Director CSB, Pampore he underscored the importance of such dialogues to unravel the new vistas of opportunities, techniques and efficient mechanism to leverage the potential of Sericulture Industry in the region by way of harnessing collective expertise and resources available within the sericulture fraternity to propel the Industry to greater heights of excellence and sustainability.

The Director Sericulture J&K while sharing valuable inputs to reinvigorate the Sericulture Industry, informed that the farmers and youth are being trained in Buniyaad Micro Silk Reeling Machines Operation so that the Cocoons produced by the Silkworm Rearers and Farmers could be processed by them in their own units which will certainly increase their income manifold. These trainings shall be conducted in collaboration with the Central Silk Board and the modalities in this regard is also being worked out by both organizations which was also discussed in detail in the meeting with the Director, Central Silk Board Pampore today.

Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS) while expressing his views on the occasion said that the Sericulture is not merely an industry; it is a heritage, a tradition, and a vital component of our cultural and economic landscape. Through concerted efforts and collaborative initiatives, we can unlock the full potential of sericulture, empowering communities, driving economic growth and preserving the rich legacy of Sericulture for generations to come.

He reaffirmed his commitment to bolstering the Silk Industry with all-around development apart from focusing on all the aspects of the Sericulture Industry and calls for paradigm shift towards achieving desired results in boosting Silkworm Seed Production, Cocoon Production as well as Silk production in the region.

As Director Sericulture, Mr. Bhat continues to exemplify visionary leadership, driving forward a comprehensive agenda focused on innovation, inclusivity, and empowerment of all the stakeholders associated with the sericulture sector. His proactive engagement with stakeholders across diverse strata of society underscores his steadfast commitment to realizing the full promise of sericulture as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation and sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
