Srinagar, Feb 27: The three-day Agri-Med science program began on Wednesday at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K) with enthusiasm.
The inaugural session of JK Agri-Med Science Congress, organized by SKUAST-K, marked a significant milestone in the convergence of agricultural and medical sciences towards the overarching goal of reshaping the bioeconomy for One Health.
The three-day event, themed ‘Reshaping Bioeconomy Towards One Health,’ commenced at the varsity’s Shalimar campus on Tuesday. The event was attended by a large number of people as well as students.
Jointly organized with JKST&IC, Department of Science and Technology, J&K Government, and JK Research Consortium, the Congress aims to facilitate comprehensive discussions on existing food production systems and healthcare facilities. It seeks to chart a course towards futuristic agriculture and a future-ready health sector, ultimately fostering a healthy society.
Speaking to the gathering, the Commissioner secretary of science and technology, Saurabh Bagat, said that SKUAST Kashmir is the most vibrant university in the country and has been doing a wonderful job. He said that in the coming time they will come up with a research program that will take this university to new heights.
Baghat lauded SKUAST-K for its innovative initiative in bringing together experts from diverse fields onto a unified platform. He expressed optimism about receiving tangible recommendations from the Congress to reshape Jammu and Kashmir’s agri-economy and nurture a culture of startups and entrepreneurship.
Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, expressed immense pride in hosting the country’s first transdisciplinary event. The Congress has attracted experts from agriculture, medical sciences, biomedical research, AYUSH, and Unani Medicine to deliberate on issues of regional importance and reshape the nation’s bioeconomy towards One Health.
He said it is a privilege for us to host the maiden program. Highlighting the role of the University, he said that SKUAST Kashmir ranks 4th in the country and 1st in innovation. He stated that the varsity has secured a new 25 crore rupee project for the betterment of the varsity. He also mentioned that SKUAST-K is the first university in the country to implement NEP 2020.
Tej Pratap, Prof MS Khuroo, Dr. Sridhar Bhallamudi, Dr. Amesh Mithal, Dr. Zaheer Ahmad, and Prof. Mohammad Ashraf Ganai graced the inaugural event, sharing insights and perspectives on the convergence of agriculture and medical sciences.
The Congress, attended by approximately 850 delegates, will witness the presentation of papers and research findings over the next two days. Key themes include New Age Digital Technologies, Green Economy, Market Intelligence, Technology in Medicine, Drug Discovery & Drug Economy, and Public Health.
