Srinagar, Jul 23: After seven decades of neglect, the residents of Balhama and surrounding villages have finally received a long-awaited victory with the inauguration of a new playground, fulfilling a long-pending demand for recreational space. The project was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Er Aijaz Hussain, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and DDC Member Srinagar, who took up the cause to provide youth with accessible sports facilities. The newly developed playground will not only serve the youth of Balhama but will also cater to the adjacent areas of Zaffron Colony, Befina, Zawoora, Zewan, and surrounding localities, offering them a much-needed space for healthy recreation and community engagement, the BJP leader said in a statement issued here.Local residents, including elders, parents, and young boys, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Er Hussain for prioritising an issue that had been ignored for generations.Speaking to the gathered locals, Er Aijaz said: “For decades, the youth of Balhama were deprived of a proper playground. I firmly believe that providing such facilities is not just about sports—it’s about giving our young generation hope, a sense of belonging, and a positive direction. I am committed to ensuring that no village is left behind in the journey of development.”Community elders hailed the initiative as a historic milestone, saying such developments will help channel the energy of the younger generation towards positive avenues, reducing alienation and fostering social harmony. The residents reaffirmed their support for Er Hussain’s vision of inclusive growth, saying his commitment to fulfilling long-standing grassroots demands reflects a people-centric approach to governance, the statement said.
