Udhampur, May 18: Reaffirming that “water is life”, Ranbir Singh Pathania, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Udhampur East, conducted an extensive whirlwind tour of the constituency on Sunday.
During his visit, he held public interaction programmes in multiple hamlets and town wards to assess the ground-level status of essential services amid the ongoing heatwave.
In a high-level review meeting convened at the District Headquarters, the MLA directed officials of the Jal Shakti Department to ensure the round-the-clock availability of clean, potable water. He emphasised the immediate repair, renovation, and flushing of every non-functional hand pump across the district.
Pathania called for seamless civil-mechanical coordination to ensure that pumping and distribution systems work in harmony. Water tanker deployments were instructed for habitations where groundwater depletion or technical faults had interrupted the supply.
The BJP leader stressed, “Come what may, no household should be left thirsting for safe drinking water.”
Regarding roads and infrastructure, the legislator reviewed the progress of the PWD (R&B) Division and designated the current dry months as the prime window for infrastructure work. His directives included the elimination of potholes and the swift restoration of all damaged black-topped stretches.
He emphasised the upgradation of unmetalled link roads to all-weather metal standards under the PMGSY and other sectors. A close weekly monitoring mechanism was mandated to ensure the delivery of ‘Modi Sarkar’ quality roads before the monsoon season.
In the realm of irrigation and flood control, with the paddy sowing season approaching, Mr. Pathania instructed the I&FC Department to desilt and repair canals, field channels, and minor water bodies on a war-footing. The aim was to guarantee the designed water discharge so that every paddy farmer receives adequate water for cultivation.
Recognising the peak-season demand, the MLA issued directions to the Power Development Department to ensure uninterrupted, quality electricity supply to domestic, agricultural, and commercial consumers. Preventive maintenance of feeders and distribution transformers was also emphasised to prevent outages and ensure continuous power.
To enhance real-time responsiveness, Pathania directed every line department to establish dedicated helplines and control rooms. These hotlines will serve as a single-window channel for citizens to lodge complaints or request emergency assistance. They will facilitate inter-departmental coordination, ensuring that issues related to water, power, roads, or irrigation are routed swiftly to the appropriate agency.
The officials will be able to capture, analyse and address public feedback holistically, driving evidence-based decision-making and diligent follow-up on pending grievances.
