Srinagar, May 05: An encounter between security forces and terrorists is underway in RedwaniPayeen area of Kulgam district, in which one LeT terrorist is believed to be trapped, officials said.

A police official told Rising Kashmir that search operation is underway and entry, exits has been sealed in the area.

“After a brief exchange of firing between terrorists and security forces, no fresh contact was established with the hiding terrorist. However search operation is still on in the area, he said.

The officer said local LeT terrorist is believed to be trapped inside the target area and security forces launched a cordon and search operation there.

He said a gunfight broke out on Monday late evening after the Special Operations Group of police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned the area on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area.

“As the search parties were zeroing in near the suspected location, the hiding terrorist opened fire at them who retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” the official said.

“We have cordoned the area and all roads leading to the encounter site have been sealed. Currently firing is going on from both sides,” he said.

In case, if the encounter will be called off following darkness, all SOPs will be followed including the installation of more lights, multiple layer cordon, etc” he said.

Earlier Kashmir Zone Police said, Encounter has started in RedwaniPayeen area of District Kulgam. Police & Security Forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.
