Srinagar, June 30: Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday conducted an extensive visit to the Waste Processing Facility in Baltal and Domail in Sonamarg to enhance waste management infrastructure.
Dr Choudhary’s visit focused on a detailed inspection of the facility’s key operational areas, including the bailing and composting sections. He meticulously examined the processes and machinery involved in these critical components of waste processing.
During the inspection, the Secretary interacted with the facility’s staff and emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards in waste management practices. He reviewed the efficiency of the bailing area, where waste materials are compressed into compact bales for easier handling and transportation.
Dr Choudhary assessed the composting area, which plays a vital role in converting organic waste into valuable compost, contributing to sustainable waste management practices. The Waste Processing Facility is managed by Urban Enviro Waste Management Ltd.
Dr Shahid highlighted the significance of such facilities in promoting environmental sustainability and reducing the ecological footprint on the Baltal axis.
The visit underscores the administration’s proactive approach to addressing waste management challenges and its dedication to fostering a cleaner and greener Jammu and Kashmir. The insights gained from this inspection will inform future improvements and expansions of waste processing capabilities in the area.
Local officials, service providers and stakeholders have expressed their appreciation for Dr Choudhary’s hands-on approach and his continuous efforts towards enhancing sanitation infrastructure.
