Srinagar, July 19: The District Srinagar Carrom Championship 2023-24, organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Carrom Association in collaboration with the District Srinagar Association and supported by the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, concluded on a successful note. The tournament, held under the banner of “My Youth My Pride,” an initiative of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, witnessed participation from over 180 players representing different schools, colleges, and clubs from across Srinagar. The championship featured four categories, namely Senior, Junior, Sub-Junior, and Cadets, catering to both boys and girls, as well as men and women sections.
The event saw the gracious presence of Mohammad Aijaz Assad IAS, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, who served as the chief guest. Also in attendance were Mubashir Hassan, Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, Rauf Tramboo, Former Member of Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, Mohammad Iqbal, Manager of SKISC, and other distinguished dignitaries.
Adil Rashid Shah, President of J&K Carrom Association, extended a warm welcome to the guests and expressed his gratitude to the sports council and district units for their support in organizing district-level tournaments throughout Jammu & Kashmir. He revealed the association’s plan to complete all district activities by November, ensuring their team is well-prepared for national competitions. During the event, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Assad interacted with the players and congratulated the winners across different categories. He emphasized the significance of balancing academic excellence and sportsmanship and encouraged the young athletes to strive for success both in studies and sports to bring pride to Jammu & Kashmir. Reflecting on his own memories of playing carrom during his childhood, he motivated the participants to work hard and give their best efforts in their pursuits.
