District Jammu Softball Championship gets underway

Jammu, Aug 1: The three days District Jammu Softball Championship 2023 was declared open by Prof Rajesh Gupta, Principal Government Gandhi Memorial Science College Jammu in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at Football Ground, GGM Science College, here on Tuesday.
 
The Championship is being organised by the Jammu District Softball Association in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
 
While speaking on the inaugural ceremony, the chief guest Prof Gupta lavished praise on the organisers for making all the requisite arrangements fantastically to hold the Championship in a most befitting manner.
 
While expressing happiness over the massive participation, he said that such a huge participation of players was rarely witnessed even in national level events.
 
“It is really a delight to witness such a big participation of sportspersons in a district level event. Softball is a University sport and the need is to take part in Inter-University events. I assure you that all the steps will be taken with regard to ensuring participation of the CUJ team in Inter-University events,” maintained Prof Gupta.
 
He further said that taking technical  assistance from the Association, the College will develop its own team in this game.
 
Dr Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director GGM Science College, C L Bhat Sr Vice President J&K Softball Association were the guests of honour, while Padam Dev Singh, Joint Secretary J&K Softball Association was the special guest.
 
The Championship is being organized under the supervision of Yogesh Mahajan as Chairman Organizing Committee; Vikram Singh, Deputy Chairman Organizing Commitee; Harvinder Singh, Convenor of the Championship; Rawat Singh, Organizing Secretary of the Championship and the team of Umpires from District Jammu and the Technical Panel from District Samba namely Sudhir Singh and Ayush Singh. 
 
Senior players of Softball sport of Jammu District were also present on the opening cermony of the event.
 
Meanwhile, in junior boys category, the matches were played between St. Paul Sports Club vs Barjala Club, wherein St Paul Sports Club won the match by 7-2.
The 2nd match was played between Raipur Club vs Saint Paul Sports Club, in which Raipur Club won the match by 10-4, and the 3rd match was played between Raipur Club vs Barjala Club, wherein Raipur Club won the match by 10-0.
 
In junior girls’ category, the matches were played between Caramel Fighters Club vs Barjala Club, in which Caramel Fighters Club won the match by 10-03, the 2nd match played between Raipur Club vs Saint Paul Club, wherein Raipur Club won the match by 08-03 and the 3rd match played between Carmel Fighter Club vs Saint Paul Sports Club, in which  Saint Paul Sports Club won by 07-03.
 
In Sub Junior boys Category, matches were played between Raipur Club vs Saint Paul Club, Raipur Club won the match by 10-04.
2nd match played between Evergreen Club vs Saint Paul Club, Evergreen Club won by 07-03.
3rd Match was played between Raipur Club vs Evergreen Club and match won by Raipur Club by the score 07-02.
 
The Championship with huge participation is being sponsored by the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
 
More than 300 athletes from different Clubs, Colleges & Schools are participating in the event in Sub-Junior (Boys & Girls), Junior (Boys & Girls) and Senior (Men & Women) categories.
 
The Championship will conclude on August 3, 2023.
